I compared a few songs from both genres and they have some similar attributes with a few obvious differences within each song. To me it almost sounds like its from Traditional China. With high pitched vocals accompanied by high pitched instruments like the Violin, Flute, and Pan pipe, this type of music is the least similar to western music from the Peruvian culture. This type of music dates back Colonial Peru as well It brings together traditional rural folk music and urban music brought from Europe. Huayno is extremely popular in Peruvian dance as well as Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, It is used in the everyday life of your local Peruvian. This might not be the best example of Afro-Peruvian music but I really liked coming across this one. The sound of the electric guitar just blends in perfectly with the music like a laid back Santana song. This music sounds different by the way it is able to incorporate psychedelic rock to Latin dance music. Chicha music sounds the way it does because it incorporates Cuban percussion, the pentatonic scales of Andean melodies, and the familiar sounds of surf guitars that sound like they came right from the song “ Wipe Out” – Surfaris. Chicha became popular in the oil booming jungle towns of the Amazonian rain forest. Peru is located in the western part of South America and borders Chile to the south and Ecuador, Colombia to the north.Ĭhicha or Peruvian Cumbia is a new kind of music which dates back to the 1960’s when surf music made its way down the pacific coast, That’s why Peruvuan Cumbia has a similar vibe to surf music from the 60’s California. which is known mostly by westerners for its Pan flute music. this includes Chicha Music, Musica Criolla, Traditional Huayno, and Andes Folklórico. The Peruvian people have many different variations of music from region to region. Although Music can be found in every corner of the globe, and come in thousands of different shapes and sizes one particular place has the unique sound of music encrypted deep into the heart and sole of their people.
